SPOTTED @
that restaurant on the first floor of our office bldg.
EDY Bldg., #144 Kisad Rd.,
Baguio City
Price: 100/serving (good for 1 person)
I had free lunch today! Courtesy of my pretty boss, Ma'am Grace. I'm so sorry I don't really know the name of the resto 'coz it's in Korean [hehe].
Anyway, sam gyup sal is a Korean pork dish. It's basically just thinly sliced pork belly strips served with lettuce, other veggies, spices, sauce and oil. (it varies per resto)
This is how it's eaten. { Oh well, it varies from one eater to another, but this is how I was taught by genuine Koreans themselves! }

2. Dip in ssamjang (bean paste something that's really good~~ trust me) then in the seasoned sesame oil. Okay, actually you may want to dip in sam jang only or sesame oil only. I prefer both!
3. Put this meat on a lettuce or cabbage leaf.
4. Next put anything you want ~~ green pepper [the one you put in sinigang or dinuguan] , kimchi, rice, garlic and other things the resto provides.
5. Fold the leaf/ wrap everthing inside the leaf. Open your mouth and swallow everything all together (good luck if you placed so many things on the leaf)
** Of course you can always opt to be demure and eat each ingredient one at a time, but then you wouldn't be enjoying the dish the Korean way.
I've tried this dish a couple of times and for a simple dish like this, it's satisfyingly delicious. It was my first time though in that resto coz it just recently opened.
Most Korean restos here in Baguio sell this dish for 220-280 for an order which is good for 2-3 people. So the price is basically the same. I like that the curly presentation of the meat. Most resto's pork slices just lay boringly flat on the plate. The meat's really fresh, too. I also like their tables with the built in grill. The only thing I didn't like is that they gave chinese cabbage instead lettuce. I want lettuce for my samgyupsal!!!
Overall, I enjoyed that stomach- filling lunch ~~ belly satisfied!!
Oh and we got free softdrinks ~~ because ... uhmmm ... did I mention that my boss is pretty?!?!
